On June 26, 2025, Vice Foreign Minister Hua Chunying attended and addressed the opening ceremony of the Third Forum on Developing Countries and International Law in Beijing.

Hua noted that over the past 80 years, the international system with the United Nations (UN) at its core and multilateralism as its cornerstone has played an important role in promoting world peace and development. Nowadays, multilateralism and the international rule of law are facing unprecedented challenges. China is ready to work hand in hand with Global South countries to jointly uphold the authority of the United Nations and international law, and promote the building of a more just and equitable global governance system. It is necessary to firmly defend the principle of sovereign equality. No individual or country has the right to place itself above international law. Any attempt to distort or hollow out UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 constitutes an infringement on China's sovereignty and territorial integrity and a blatant provocation against the post-war international order. Hua stressed the importance of the peaceful resolution of disputes and welcomed more countries to actively join the International Organization for Mediation. She also called for advancing sustainable and common development and safeguarding international fairness and justice.

UN Under-Secretary-General Elinor Jane Britt Hammarskjöld delivered remarks via video link, stating that developing countries are the backbone of advancing the development of international law. She noted that China, together with several countries, has recently worked to establish the International Organization for Mediation, which is an institutional innovation led by developing countries. The United Nations will continue to support capacity building in developing countries and work toward building a more inclusive, innovative, and representative global governance system.

Themed "The 80th Anniversary of the United Nations and the Development of International Law: Contributions of Developing Countries", the forum was jointly organized on the occasion of UN Charter Day by the Chinese Society of International Law, the Asian Academy of International Law, and the Institute of International Law of Wuhan University. The forum brought together around 300 participants, including representatives from international organizations such as the United Nations, the African Union, and the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization, renowned international law experts from countries including the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Australia, India, Sierra Leone, and Algeria, as well as diplomatic envoys of some countries to China and representatives from Chinese universities, research institutions, and practical departments.
