On April 7, 2026, Assistant Foreign Minister Cai Wei met with UN Under-Secretary-General for Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance Catherine Pollard, who was on a visit to China.
Cai Wei stated that as the second largest contributor to the UN’s regular budget and peacekeeping operations budget, China has always conscientiously fulfilled its financial obligations to the UN and supported the UN and the cause of multilateralism with concrete actions. Given the escalating turbulence in the current international landscape and the resurgence of unilateralism and protectionism, China stands ready to further deepen cooperation with the UN in areas including management affairs, and firmly safeguard the status and role of the UN.
Catherine Pollard highly appreciated China’s strong support for multilateralism and the UN. Catherine Pollard expressed willingness to strengthen communication and coordination with China to promote quality and efficiency improvement of the UN through reform, so as to better fulfill its mandate, meet challenges, and strive to enhance the representation of personnel from developing countries in the UN.
