On October 14, 2024, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi. The two sides spoke positively about China-Iran relations, saying that they will maintain exchanges at all levels and promote practical cooperation.

Seyed Abbas Araghchi said, Iran is deeply concerned about the risk of a full escalation of the current regional situation and does not want to see further expansion of the conflict. Iran attaches great importance to China's important influence in international affairs and is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China to cool down the situation through diplomatic means. Israel should avoid taking risks and proceed cautiously.

Wang Yi said that at present, the negative impact of the Gaza conflict is clearly spilling over, and regional tensions are escalating continuously. China always advocates resolving hotspot issues through dialogue and consultation, opposes expanding conflicts and exacerbating tensions, rejects military risk-taking, and calls on all parties to engage in more actions conducive to safeguarding regional peace and stability. China will continue to act as a responsible major country, view the issue based on its merits, strengthen communication with all parties, pool more international consensus and strength, and play a constructive role in de-escalating the conflict.

Wang Yi said, China is glad to see the Iranian government carry out mediation diplomacy, enhance understanding with all parties and improve relations with regional countries. China supports the historic reconciliation between Iran and Saudi Arabia, and is ready to jointly work for positive outcomes from the second meeting of the China-Iran-Saudi Arabia Trilateral Joint Committee, consolidate the momentum of Iran-Saudi Arabia reconciliation and inject positive energy into regional peace and stability.
