On April 1, 2025 local time, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Moscow.
Vladimir Putin asked Wang Yi to convey his sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping and expressed delight in seeing the various common understandings reached with President Xi Jinping being effectively implemented. Russia-China relations continue to develop at a high level, with practical cooperation deepening in various fields and the ongoing "Russia-China Years of Culture" generating positive and enthusiastic responses, solidifying the foundation of public support for bilateral friendship. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union's Great Patriotic War. He hopes that the Chinese side will attend the commemorative activities in Russia and jointly celebrate the victory against Nazi fascism and Japanese militarism. The Russian side is making every effort to advance the preparatory work and is willing to take this opportunity to elevate the Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination to a new level and continuously deepen bilateral cooperation within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and BRICS. Amid turbulent international situation, Russia and China should consistently send a strong signal of enhancing strategic coordination to the world.
Wang Yi conveyed warm regards from President Xi Jinping to President Vladimir Putin. He said, under the strategic guidance and joint efforts of the two heads of state, a mature, resilient, and stable China-Russia relationship with deepening political mutual trust, closer strategic coordination, and enhanced practical cooperation, safeguarded both nations' development and revitalization and their common interests in major international and regional affairs. China-Russia cooperation never targets any third party and remains impervious to external interference. The relationship between China and Russia will keep broadening, not stagnate. China-Russia friendship is not focused on the present, but looks towards a long-term future.
Wang Yi said over 80 years ago, the peoples of China and the Soviet Union fought bravely and pressed ahead against the odds on the Asian and European battlefronts, and made tremendous national sacrifices to defeat Japanese militarism and Nazi fascism, making significant contributions to the cause of peace for mankind. 80 years later, as pivotal stabilizing forces in a turbulent world, China and Russia should jointly safeguard the outcomes of World War II, defend the post-war international order, uphold the central role of the United Nations in the global system, and promote a multipolar world and greater democracy in international relations. The two countries have thoroughly coordinated their plans to support each other's 80th-anniversary commemorative events, expressing confidence that the important engagement between the two heads of state this year will once again write a new chapter in China-Russia relations.
During his visit to Russia, Wang Yi also held multiple rounds of talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
