On April 29, 2025 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi met with Chief Advisor to the Presidency of Brazil Celso Luiz Nunes Amorim in Brasilia.

Wang Yi congratulated Brazil on successfully hosting the Meeting of BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs / International Relations and the session for Ministers of Foreign Affairs / International Relations from BRICS members and partner countries, and on its role as the chair country for the first grand reunion of the BRICS family. All participating parties unanimously agreed that rampant unilateral protectionism undermines the free trade system, harms the legitimate rights and interests of countries, and disrupts the stability of international industrial and supply chains. This is not what a responsible major country should do. In the face of current challenges, all parties reached an important consensus and sent a strong signal on upholding multilateralism and the multilateral trading system. China is willing to work with Brazil to leverage the role of BRICS countries as the leading members of the Global South, jointly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries, and work together to address common challenges.

Wang Yi said that President Xi Jinping and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva have elevated China-Brazil relations to a new height of a community with a shared future, leading China-Brazil relations into the best period in history, and also setting new goals for China and Brazil to strengthen strategic synergy of development strategies and expand all-round cooperation. Both sides should consolidate strategic mutual trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and continuously bring the China-Brazil comprehensive strategic partnership to new heights. Facing an uncertain and unstable world, China and Brazil, as two major developing countries and representatives of emerging economies, need to unite and cooperate, fulfill international responsibilities, and jointly work for the cause of peace and development for mankind.

Celso Luiz Nunes Amorim said that the close interactions between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and President Xi Jinping fully demonstrate the strategic nature and significance of Brazil-China relations. Brazil is willing to work with China to implement the common understandings reached between the two heads of state, strive together towards building a community with a shared future for a more just world and a more sustainable planet, and promote more achievements in cooperation across various fields between Brazil and China. China's resolute and strong countermeasures against "reciprocal tariffs" have won understanding and admiration from various parties, especially countries in the Global South. In the face of rising unilateral protectionism, BRICS countries should take active actions, uphold multilateralism, and jointly safeguard the multilateral trading system.

The two sides exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis, emphasizing the readiness to make good use of the Group of Friends for Peace to play a constructive role in promoting a political solution to the Ukraine crisis.

The two sides also conducted strategic communication on hotspot issues such as the Middle East and the Iranian nuclear issue.
