On July 1, 2025 local time, Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever met with Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Brussels.
Bart De Wever said that Belgium has a long history of exchanges with China and active sub-national friendly interactions, serving as a gateway in EU-China cooperation. Having visited China multiple times, Bart De Wever expressed his deep impression of China's development achievements. While the EU and China may hold different perspectives, both sides should strengthen exchanges and enhance mutual trust in the face of the current complex geopolitical situation. He expressed Belgium's firm commitment to multilateralism and support for a more autonomous Europe, and expected that the EU-China Summit will yield positive outcomes. The Belgian government remains steadfast in upholding the one-China policy, which will not change.
Wang Yi said that Belgium, as a founding member of the EU and the host of the EU headquarters, plays a unique role in the process of European integration and China-EU relations. The Chinese side commended the new Belgian government for pursuing a rational and pragmatic policy towards China, and expressed China's willingness to carry forward the traditional friendship and promote the sustained and steady development of the all-round partnership of friendly cooperation between China and Belgium. China stays committed to high-quality development and high-standard opening up, and welcomes more Belgian businesses to develop in China. Wang Yi expressed the hope that the Belgian side will also provide a fair, secure, and predictable business environment for Chinese companies investing in Belgium.
Wang Yi stated that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-EU diplomatic relations, which is of great significance in building on past achievements and charting the future. The half-century exchanges between China and the EU have fully demonstrated that both sides can respect each other and achieve win-win cooperation. In the face of an increasingly complex and volatile international landscape, China and the EU, as two major global powers, markets, and civilizations, should remain committed to the positioning as partners and the main theme of win-win cooperation, strengthen communication, enhance understanding, cement mutual trust, jointly safeguard multilateralism and the free trade system, and work together to serve as the "anchor of stability" for the world, becoming mutually reliable and strong partners that help each other succeed.
The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine issue and other topics.
