On July 4, 2025 local time, French President Emmanuel Macron met with Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the Élysée Palace in Paris.
Emmanuel Macron asked Wang Yi to convey his best wishes and friendly regards to President Xi Jinping. He said that France and China share broad common understandings on numerous important issues, including advocating multilateralism and observing international law. France and China, both permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, bear even greater responsibilities as today's world is facing increasing uncertainty and unpredictability. France looks forward to strengthening policy coordination with China in such aspects as international economy, finance, and global governance, jointly addressing global challenges, injecting more vitality into multilateralism, and preventing the world from falling into hegemonic conflicts and bloc confrontations. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the European Union (EU) and China should make strategic choices to become each other's predictable and trustworthy friends and partners. The French side attaches great importance to developing France-China relations and welcomes increased Chinese investment in France to develop a more balanced economic and trade relationship. Emmanuel Macron expressed the expectation to visit China again at an appropriate time.
Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping's cordial greetings to President Emmanuel Macron, saying that China is ready to work with France to deliver on the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state, prepare for high-level exchanges in the next phase, and deepen cooperation in all fields. China and France are comprehensive strategic partners and two major stabilizing forces in the world. The more turbulent the international situation is, the more prominent the strategic value of China-France relations becomes. China believes that the trend of multi-polarity is unstoppable and the trend of globalization is irreversible. Wang Yi emphasized the need to take the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations as an opportunity to further strengthen the central role of the United Nations and ensure it plays its due role. China is ready to work with France to enhance strategic communication, unity and cooperation, jointly practice multilateralism, oppose unilateralism and bullying acts, resist bloc confrontations, inject more certainty and predictability into a world of change and turmoil, promote an equal and orderly multi-polar world and universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, and work together to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
Wang Yi said, China is advancing toward high-quality development, committed to building a new, open and higher-standard economic system, fostering a first-rate business environment that is market-oriented, law-based, and internationalized, while actively advancing the strategy of expanding domestic demand. China is ready to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with France and hopes that the French side will provide a more favorable and fair environment for Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in France. Noting that China and the EU have resolved the brandy issue through friendly consultations, Wang Yi expressed the hope that France, as a core major country in the EU, will urge the EU to properly handle China-EU economic and trade differences and actively respond to China's concerns.
The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis, the situation in Gaza and the Iranian nuclear issue, among other topics.
