Updated: July 10, 2025 16:25

On July 10, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi briefed the fruitful achievements of China-ASEAN cooperation on the sidelines of the China-ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

First, the bond of the community with a shared future with neighboring countries has become closer. In April this year, President Xi Jinping paid successful visits to Viet Nam, Malaysia, and Cambodia, elevating the building of bilateral communities with a shared future to a higher level and advancing mutually beneficial cooperation toward greater quality.

Second, the steps of regional opening up and cooperation have become more resolute. Negotiations on the Version 3.0 China-ASEAN Free Trade Area have been fully completed, and a protocol will be signed within the year. The ASEAN-China-GCC Summit has pioneered a new model of cross-regional cooperation.

Third, security cooperation has become more in-depth. All parties have completed the third reading of the draft text of the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea, effectively managed differences, and maintained overall maritime stability. China has joined hands with Myanmar, Laos, Thailand and other countries to combat transnational crimes such as online gambling and telecommunications fraud.

Fourth, personnel exchanges have become more convenient. The two sides have held over 100 activities in the Year of People-to-People Exchanges for two consecutive years. The "Lancang-Mekong Visas" and the "ASEAN visa" have been officially rolled out, making mutual visits as easy and frequent as family gatherings.

Wang Yi stated that China always regards ASEAN as a priority in its neighborhood diplomacy and views its neighborhood as a pilot zone for building a community with a shared future for mankind. China will continue to seek an amicable, secure and prosperous neighborhood, follow the principles of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness, and share weal and woe with its neighbors. China will work with ASEAN to champion the Asian values of peace, cooperation, openness, and inclusiveness, build a common home that enjoys peace, tranquility, prosperity, beautiful environment and friendship, promote the building of an even closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future, and accelerate the revitalization of Asia in the historic trend of the remarkable rise of the Global South.
