On August 20, 2025 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Afghan Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi in Kabul.

Wang Yi expressed his pleasure at visiting Afghanistan again. As a neighbor and partner, China congratulates Afghanistan on the new achievements it has made in national development. China pursues a policy of friendship towards all the Afghan people and has always been at the forefront among major countries and neighboring countries in developing relations with Afghanistan. China will continue to support the Afghan government in exercising governance prudently, focusing on development, resolutely countering terrorism, promoting good-neighborliness and friendship, and achieving lasting peace and stability. Both sides should properly handle the relations between security and development. Stronger China-Afghanistan security cooperation will provide safeguards for economic cooperation, while deeper economic cooperation will also enhance Afghanistan's security capability. Wang Yi expressed the hope that Afghanistan will continue to make every effort to crack down on the East Turkestan Islamic Movement terrorist forces, so as to remove obstacles from and inject impetus into the further development of China-Afghanistan relations.

Wang Yi emphasized that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Afghanistan. China supports Afghanistan's economy-centered policy. China is ready to work with Afghanistan to carry forward the friendship between the two countries, deepen political mutual trust, and strengthen exchanges and cooperation in areas such as economy and trade, agriculture, poverty reduction, water conservancy, connectivity, and people-to-people interactions, so that the tree of China-Afghanistan friendship will continue to grow robustly, better benefiting the two countries and two peoples, and making new contributions to regional peace, stability, and development.

Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi welcomed Wang Yi's visit, expressed gratitude to China for its valuable support in Afghanistan's opposition to external interference, and appreciated China's important contribution to safeguarding regional peace and development. Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi said that friendship with China is the cornerstone of Afghanistan's foreign policy. Thanks to China's help, Afghanistan has been able to govern the country smoothly. In the face of major changes in the current international and regional situation, it is the right time for Afghanistan and China to deepen cooperation. Afghanistan is willing to deepen bilateral relations on the basis of equality and mutual respect, enhance exchanges at all levels, establish a regular dialogue mechanism for economic and trade cooperation, and promote practical cooperation to achieve more mutually beneficial results. Afghanistan attaches great importance to China's security concerns and will never allow any individual or force to use Afghan territory to engage in activities harmful to China. Afghanistan is willing to strengthen security and counter-terrorism cooperation with China to jointly safeguard lasting peace and stability in the region.
