On August 20, 2025 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Afghan Minister of Interior Affairs Sirajuddin Haqqani in Kabul.

Wang Yi said that China and Afghanistan have had friendly exchanges for more than a thousand years. China has always treated Afghanistan with goodwill, upheld the principle of equality among countries regardless of size, and adhered to the principle of non-interference in internal affairs. China respects Afghanistan's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, the development path chosen by the Afghan people, and its unique national conditions as well as ethnic and religious traditions. In Afghanistan's development and revitalization process, China is a reliable partner and friend of Afghanistan.

Wang Yi pointed out that China supports Afghanistan in pursuing an economy-centered policy, and is ready to contribute to Afghanistan's development and revitalization and enhance its capacity for independent development. China will continue to uphold justice for Afghanistan in multilateral mechanisms, and oppose the unreasonable suppression of Afghanistan and the freezing of its assets. China supports the early resumption of bilateral patrols in the Wakhan Corridor to maintain peace and tranquility in border areas. He expressed the hope that Afghanistan will take firm actions to crack down on the East Turkestan Islamic Movement and other international terrorist forces, so as to provide solid guarantees and the necessary environment for bilateral cooperation.

Sirajuddin Haqqani expressed appreciation to China for its valuable assistance over the years to Afghanistan's national development and improvement of people's wellbeing, as well as its support for Afghanistan's integration into the international community. He said that over the past four years of governance, the Afghan government has been committed to promoting development, improving people's wellbeing, and enhancing exchanges with other countries, and has made positive progress in areas such as anti-corruption and counter-narcotics. As a result, people's lives have become more stable. Afghanistan and China enjoy a longstanding friendship. Afghanistan is willing to carry forward the friendship between the two countries, and further deepen cooperation with China in various fields. Afghanistan attaches great importance to China's security concerns, stressing that any threat to China is also a challenge to Afghanistan. Afghanistan will never allow anyone to use its territory to undermine China's security. Afghanistan is willing to further strengthen security cooperation with China to jointly address risks and challenges.
