On August 20, 2025 local time, Afghan Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund met with Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Kabul.

Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund asked Wang Yi to convey his cordial greetings to Chinese leaders. He said that the Chinese government and people have always held a friendly and positive attitude towards Afghanistan, and thanked China for speaking up for Afghanistan on the international stage. China is a force for justice in the world, and is consistently committed to friendly cooperation with Afghanistan and other countries for common development and progress. History has shown that those countries attempting to interfere in other nations' affairs will only suffer the consequences, while those pursuing friendly policies will achieve success. This is China's unique strength. Like China, Afghanistan adheres to the principle of non-interference in internal affairs and is willing to coexist amicably and cooperate with all nations. Over the past two decades, Afghanistan has endured the ravages of war and chaos, and some Western countries continue to maliciously smear Afghanistan. The Afghan government will make every effort to resolve issues, promote development, and improve people's livelihood. Afghanistan does not wish to and will not create trouble for other countries. Afghanistan looks forward to strengthening cooperation with China to advance a positive and sustainable friendly relationship. Afghanistan will never allow any force to use its territory to threaten China, and will always stand firmly with China.

Wang Yi conveyed the kind greetings of the Chinese leaders, and said that China-Afghanistan exchanges have spanned thousands of years, and the two countries have always maintained friendly relations. China always adheres to the principle of non-interference in internal affairs, and respects the choice of the Afghan people, Afghanistan's unique cultural traditions, and the governance model established by Afghanistan in light of its national conditions. China supports Afghanistan in upholding its independence to achieve development and revitalization. President Xi Jinping has proposed building a neighborhood community with a shared future and advocated for working with neighboring countries to build a peaceful, safe and secure, prosperous, beautiful and amicable home and to jointly advance modernization. Afghanistan is indispensable and should be an important partner in this process.

Wang Yi noted that throughout history, imperialists, colonialists and hegemonists have all attempted to invade Afghanistan but all have failed, and such schemes will not succeed in the future. China has consistently advocated for the equality of all countries, regardless of size, and opposes the strong bullying the weak or the big oppressing the small. All countries should treat each other as equals and pursue win-win cooperation. The world should not be one where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Every country, including Afghanistan, has the right to achieve development and revitalization.

Wang Yi pointed out that since the change of government in Afghanistan, the Chinese Foreign Minister has visited the country twice, which demonstrates China's sincere wish to develop relations with Afghanistan and carry forward traditional friendship. As a neighboring country of Afghanistan, China will continue to uphold justice, oppose unilateralism and bullying, and carry out cooperation with Afghanistan in various fields. Stronger security cooperation will provide the necessary safeguard for economic cooperation. The East Turkestan Islamic Movement is a terrorist organization designated by the United Nations Security Council. Wang Yi expressed the hope that Afghanistan will take China's concerns seriously and intensify its counter-terrorism efforts. Wang Yi expressed confidence that under the leadership of the Afghan government, Afghanistan will achieve greater development and deliver more benefits to its people.

During the visit, Wang Yi held talks with the Afghan Foreign Minister and met with the Afghan Minister of Interior Affairs.
