On August 24, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Special Envoy of the Republic of Korea (ROK) President Park Byeong-seug in Beijing.

Wang Yi said that today marks the 33rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the ROK. The bilateral relationship is now at an important stage of improvement and development. China has always attached great importance to its relations with the ROK. After the inauguration of the new ROK government, President Xi Jinping had a phone call with President Lee Jae-myung, during which they reached important common understandings on advancing the China-ROK strategic cooperative partnership to a higher level, charting the course for the development of bilateral relations in the next step. The development of China-ROK relations has demonstrated that good-neighborliness and friendship, seeking common ground while shelving differences, and expanding cooperation are the right choices. China maintains stability and continuity in its policy towards the ROK. Both sides should adhere to the original aspiration of establishing diplomatic relations, firmly uphold the friendship, expand common interests, improve relations between the two peoples, properly handle sensitive issues, and promote the steady and long-term development of China-ROK relations on the right track.

Wang Yi stated that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Korean Peninsula. China will hold grand commemorative events on September 3. At this important and special juncture, China is ready to work with all peace-loving countries and people to bear history in mind, honor the fallen heroes, cherish peace, forge ahead for a better future, and jointly safeguard the outcomes of the victory of World War II and international fairness and justice. China and the ROK should also join hands to uphold the international free trade system, jointly oppose trade protectionism, practice the concept of multilateralism, enhance communication and coordination within the framework of the United Nations and other platforms, and effectively respond to regional and even global challenges.

Park Byeong-seug asked Wang Yi to forward the letter from ROK President Lee Jae-myung to President Xi Jinping. He said that the new ROK government attaches great importance to developing relations with China and is willing to work with China to implement the common understandings reached by the two heads of state, enhance high-level exchanges, expand practical cooperation for the future, increase people-to-people and cultural exchanges in education, youth and other fields, and bring the strategic cooperative partnership between the ROK and China back on the right track. The ROK always respects the one-China principle and is willing to develop relations with China and other major countries in parallel to jointly maintain regional peace, stability, development and prosperity.
