On October 8, 2025 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani in Rome.
Wang Yi said that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Italy. For more than half a century, China and Italy have carried out high-level pragmatic cooperation and promoted high-quality people-to-people and cultural exchanges, building a fruitful comprehensive strategic partnership. The history of exchanges between China and Italy fully demonstrates that openness, cooperation, and joint development are the right choices based on both sides' cultural heritage and practical needs, in line with the fundamental and long-term interests of both sides, and in response to the common aspirations of the two peoples. China is ready to work with Italy to enhance confidence, overcome any disturbances, actively implement the action plan on strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership, promote more achievements in bilateral cooperation, and contribute to the economic development of both countries.
Wang Yi said that China and Italy, as comprehensive strategic partners, should maintain close exchanges, trust and support each other, and address each other's major concerns. China hopes and believes that Italy will continue to uphold the one-China principle and consolidate the political foundation for the sound and stable development of China-Italy relations. Both sides should take concrete actions to implement the important common understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries, and translate their positive political will into driving momentum for the development of China-Italy relations. China is ready to work with Italy to actively explore cooperation potential in areas such as green development, digital economy, aerospace, and artificial intelligence, and encourage enterprises from both countries to increase two-way investment by providing a business environment that is fair, transparent, non-discriminatory, and predictable.
Wang Yi said that in today's world where changes and turmoil are intertwined, China and Italy, as outstanding representatives of ancient civilizations in the East and the West, should and are well placed to draw wisdom and inspiration from their historical heritage, offer rational and pragmatic China-Italy solutions to pressing global challenges, jointly serve as a force for world peace and stability, and make unremitting efforts to promote the building of a more just and equitable global governance system.
Antonio Tajani said that Italy-China relations are of great importance. Cooperation in various fields within the framework of the strategic partnership has produced remarkable results, building a constructive and mutually beneficial relationship. Economic and trade cooperation is an important driving force for the development of Italy-China relations. He expressed the hope that both sides will strengthen dialogue and exchanges through bilateral mechanisms such as the Italy-China Government Committee and the Economic Cooperation Mixed Committee, deepen pragmatic cooperation, and effectively implement the three-year action plan, so as to promote the in-depth development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. Italy is willing to expand mutual investment with China in both traditional and innovative sectors, broaden exchanges and cooperation in science and technology, healthcare, tourism, and cultural fields, open more direct flights, and make good use of the opportunity of Italy's hosting of the Winter Olympics next year to strengthen mutual support. Italy welcomes more Chinese enterprises to increase investment in the country and is willing to create a favorable environment for this purpose.
Antonio Tajani emphasized that Italy firmly adheres to the one-China policy and will never waver in this regard. As a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, China plays a pivotal role in safeguarding world peace and development. Italy is willing to strengthen multilateral cooperation with China and jointly promote the peaceful settlement of issues such as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the Ukraine crisis.
