On May 27, 2026 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov in New York.

Wang Yi thanked Rashid Meredov for making a special trip to New York to attend the Security Council high-level meeting. He said the more complex and changing the international situation becomes, the more we must stick to multilateralism and uphold the authority of the United Nations. Otherwise, Global South countries will be the first to suffer. The U.N. is an important stage for China-Turkmenistan cooperation. The two sides should work even more closely, support each other’s major initiatives, and show the high level of the China-Turkmenistan comprehensive strategic partnership.

Wang Yi said the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov successfully visited China in March. The mutual trust and friendship between the leaders of the two countries continue to deepen, providing strong strategic backing for bilateral relations. China is ready to work with Turkmenistan to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, advance the cooperation in major projects, support Turkmenistan’s diversified development, and inject new impetus into China-Turkmenistan relations.

Rashid Meredov said he thanks China for proposing the Security Council high-level meeting and inviting Turkmenistan to attend. Under the current international situation, upholding the U.N. Charter and reforming global governance are especially important.
