On December 24, 2019, Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong met with visiting Permanent Representatives to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) from Cameroon, Palestine, Yemen, Nigeria, Egypt, Chad, Pakistan, Sudan, Bangladesh and Niger, as well as Yousif Mohammed Al-Dhubaeyi, OIC Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs.

Chen Xiaodong expressed, China and the Islamic world enjoy a traditional friendship, and have all along supported and sincerely helped each other, setting a model for exchanges among civilizations and South-South cooperation. As the world now faces complex and profound adjustments, China and the Islamic countries, the important components of developing countries, should enhance unity and cooperation, work together to safeguard the basic norms of international relations and jointly safeguard multilateralism, fairness and justice.

Chen Xiaodong also briefed on the economic and social development achievements, as well as the equality, solidarity and harmony among all ethnic groups in Xinjiang. He pointed out, Xinjiang has achieved remarkable results in counter-terrorism and de-radicalization. Certain countries aim to, by hyping up issues related to Xinjiang, tarnish China's image, contain and hinder China's development, as well as destroy and drive a wedge in the friendly relations between China and the Islamic countries. Such practice is doomed to fail. China is willing to, together with the international community including the Islamic countries, strengthen exchanges and cooperation in counter-terrorism and de-radicalization.

The delegation members spoke highly of the Chinese side's efforts in developing its relations with the Islamic world, and believed that the Chinese government attaches great importance to protecting various rights of Muslims and other religious believers. Terrorism is an enemy of mankind. The Chinese government's counter-terrorism measures have been very necessary and Xinjiang's achievements in counter-terrorism and de-radicalization have been remarkable. Any attempt to interfere in China's internal affairs and drive a wedge between the Islamic countries and China under the pretext of issues related to Xinjiang wins no support. The Islamic countries attach importance to strengthening unity with the Chinese side, and are willing to further deepen cooperation in various areas to push for the relations between the Islamic world and China for continuous development.

The delegation will also visit Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
