On October 19-22, 2020, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized diplomats of Pacific island countries to China to visit Guangdong Province. Diplomats from Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Federated States of Micronesia, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and trade and investment commissioners from Pacific island countries to China attended the tour. Vice Foreign Minister Zheng Zeguang and Special Envoy for the China-Pacific Islands Forum Dialogue Wang Xuefeng were present at related activities.

Governor of Guangdong Province Ma Xingrui met with the Pacific Island Diplomatic Corps in Guangdong. Governor Ma Xingrui introduced the achievements made by Guangdong in coordinating COVID-19 prevention and control and economic and social development, adding that Guangdong will, guided by the important consensus reached at the meeting between President Xi Jinping and leaders of Pacific island countries, adhere to the right approach to justice and interests and further leverage its regional and economic advantages to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with Pacific island countries in the areas of economic and trade investment, infrastructure construction, agriculture and fisheries and tourism under the Belt and Road Initiative and to promote greater development of friendly relations between the two sides.

The diplomats visited the "Great Trend in Pearl River - The 40th Anniversary Exhibition of Guangdong's Reform and Opening Up" in Shenzhen; in Foshan, they visited the projects on new countryside construction landscape and agricultural modernization, including Wonking Gardening World, Harbor Koi Farm and Xianliao Village on Xianlu Island in Lishui Town of Nanhai District, and investigated high-end manufacturing industries such as Midea Group; they visited Huawei's Songshan Lake Base in Dongguan. In Guangzhou, the diplomats also launched matchmaking events with relevant departments of the Guangdong Provincial Government, cities and enterprises.

The diplomats of Pacific island countries to China spoke highly of the remarkable results achieved by Guangdong Province in the fight against COVID-19, congratulated Guangdong on its resilient growth in economic and social development, and praised the tremendous achievements made by Guangdong in the reform and opening-up drive. They said, the Pacific island countries will strengthen friendly exchanges and practical cooperation with Guangdong across all areas and lift the comprehensive strategic partnership with China to a higher level.
