Vice Foreign Minister Zheng Zeguang Holds Political Consultation with Columbian Deputy Foreign Minister Francisco Javier Echeverri

On November 20, 2020, Vice Foreign Minister Zheng Zeguang and Columbian Deputy Foreign Minister Francisco Javier Echeverri held the 10th political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries via video link.

Zheng Zeguang first extended his condolence over the flood disasters in Columbia. He believes that production and people's lives in the afflicted areas will get back to normal at an early date under the leadership of the Columbian government. Zheng Zeguang said that China-Columbia relations have made steady progress over the past 40 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties of the two countries. Both sides shared mutual understanding and supported each other on major issues related to sovereignty and security, deepened their exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and thus brought substantial benefits to the two peoples. China is ready to work with Columbia to follow through the important consensus reached between the two heads of state, and take the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations as a new starting point to further synergize their development strategies, broaden practical cooperation in the fight against COVID-19 and other fields, expand people-to-people exchanges, strengthen multilateral coordination, safeguard multilateralism and bring the China-Columbia relations to a new stage.

Francisco Javier Echeverri spoke highly of the progress of bilateral relations over the past 40 years. He expressed his gratitude to China's support and assistance in anti-pandemic and disaster relief fields. Francisco Javier Echeverri said the Columbian government attaches great importance to the relationship with China, and is willing to enhance friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation on pandemic prevention and control, vaccine development and research, economy, trade, culture, education, science and technology, deepen communication and collaboration on international and regional affairs, collectively support multilateralism, and strive for a sound and fast development of bilateral relations.

The two sides also exchanged views on other issues of common concern.
