On May 7, 2021, Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng met with ambassadors or senior diplomats from 23 Latin American and Caribbean Countries to China.
Xie Feng said in his speech that consolidating and developing its relations with Latin America has been China's consistent and unwavering foreign policy. China is ready to work with Latin America to jointly build a China-Latin America community with a shared future featuring equality, mutual benefit, innovation, openness and people's wellbeing in the new era. Since the COVID-19 outbreak, China and Latin America have fought against the pandemic with mutual assistance and solidarity, setting a good example for the global anti-pandemic cooperation. Solidarity and cooperation is the most powerful weapon to defeat the pandemic. China and Latin America need to boost the strong vitality of South-South cooperation in the new era, gain strength through unity and overcome difficulties together, contributing to closing the gap between the North and the South and realizing sustainable development.
The envoys spoke highly of China's contributions to the fight against COVID-19 around the world, especially in Latin American and Caribbean countries. They said that Latin America attaches great importance to its friendly and cooperative relationship with China, and is willing to work with China to lift Latin America-China relations and practical cooperation in various areas including pandemic control to a higher level.
