On May 14, 2021, Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng said in his speech at the exchange meeting themed with "Xinjiang is a wonderful land", the visit of envoys of Latin American and Caribbean countries to China to Xinjiang organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not only a tour to discover the truth but also a trip to synergize cooperation and to boost exchanges between different civilizations.
Noting that Xinjiang "has the advantage of connecting eight neighboring countries with five ports and connecting Europe and Asia with the Silk Road", this region was once a key route on the ancient Silk Road and an important gateway to facilitate economic and trade contact of the East and the West, and it is now at the core of the Silk Road Economic Belt construction. Xinjiang is long known as the "granary", "meat warehouse", "oil basin" and "coal sea". It has taken shape as a transportation hub, a trade and logistics center, a regional financial center, a cultural, scientific and educational center, and a medical service center, and is gradually developing into a frontier of China's opening-up of inland and border areas. Latin America and the Caribbean, which span the northern and southern hemispheres and are along the Atlantic and the Pacific, have a vast territory, distinctive natural conditions, and abundant mineral, agricultural and marine resources. The region has started the modernization drive quite early, and has contiguous emerging economies with a young population structure, great potential and bright prospects. The two sides feature outstanding complementary industrial advantages and ample momentum for cooperation in mining, infrastructure, clean energy, power transmission and transformation equipment, tourism, and modern agriculture, etc. In recent years, Xinjiang-based enterprises, including TBEA, Xintian International and Goldwind, have actively tapped the Latin American and Caribbean markets and carried out practical cooperation in the fields of agricultural planting, wind power generation and photovoltaic power generation, among others.
Xie Feng hopes the envoys to learn more about Xinjiang and its many special industries, actively explore resources and opportunities for cooperation, promote colorful people-to-people exchanges in diverse forms, and continuously inject new momentum and vitality into the cooperation and cultural exchanges between China and Latin America and the Caribbean, and the building of a community with a shared future for China and Latin America and the Caribbean.
