Vice Foreign Minister Deng Li Holds Virtual Meeting with OPCW Director-General Fernando Arias

On September 15, 2022, Vice Foreign Minister Deng Li met with Director-General of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Fernando Arias via video link.

Deng Li elaborated on China's position and concerns regarding the acceleration of the destruction of Japan's abandoned chemical weapons (ACWs) in China, and expressed the hope that the Director-General and the OPCW will continue to urge Japan to thoroughly destroy its ACWs in China at an early date in accordance with the provisions of the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Arias said that he understands China's concerns and the urgency of destroying Japan's ACWs in China, and will continue to support and promote the acceleration of the destruction process.

The two sides also exchanged views on the work of the OPCW and its relations with China, among other issues.

After the meeting, Arias and the OPCW Executive Council delegation paid a virtual visit to China regarding the destruction of Japan's ACWs in China.
