On June 16, 2023, Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu met in Beijing with Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria.

Ma Zhaoxu said that China attaches great importance to the role of APEC, supports the work of the APEC Secretariat, and stands ready to work with all other parties to implement Putrajaya Vision 2040 in a comprehensive and balanced manner, build an open Asia-Pacific economy, maintain the right direction of APEC cooperation, encourage the APEC mechanism to play a better role, and promote the building of an Asia-Pacific community with a shared future.

Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria said that the Secretariat highly appreciates China for its contribution to promoting APEC cooperation, and stands ready to work with China to strengthen communication and cooperation, and push for economic recovery and common prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.
