On June 19, 2023, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong met in Beijing with Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Dr. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi, who is on a working visit to China.

Sun Weidong said that Qatar is China’s important strategic partner. China is ready to work with Qatar to follow the direction identified by President Xi Jinping and Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, strengthen political exchanges, continue to firmly support each other’s core interests, deepen practical cooperation in various fields, and push for greater development of China-Qatar relations. China attaches importance to the unique role played by Qatar in international and regional affairs, welcomes Qatar’s resumption of diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates, and stands ready to enhance cooperation with Qatar and other countries in the region and make relentless efforts to promote international and regional peace and stability.

Dr. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi said that Qatar always views Qatar-China relations from a strategic height, stays committed to the one-China principle, opposes external interference in China’s internal affairs, and stands ready to deepen exchanges and cooperation with China in various fields. Qatar highly appreciates China’s important contribution to promoting the resumption of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran, and stands ready to strengthen communication with China on regional hotspot issues, to jointly promote regional security and stability.
