On October 24, 2023, Assistant Foreign Minister Nong Rong met with the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR) in Beijing.
Nong Rong welcomed the delegation from the CPR, who paid a visit to China and attended the opening ceremony of the International Symposium to Commemorate the 10th Anniversary of China's Principle of Amity, Sincerity, Mutual Benefit and Inclusiveness in Neighborhood Diplomacy. Stressing that China and ASEAN are close neighbors and live in a common home, Nong Rong said that maintaining regional peace and stability and promoting regional development and prosperity are in the common interests of both sides and are shared goals pursued by both sides. China firmly supports the building of the ASEAN Community and ASEAN centrality, and expects the CPR to play a greater role in the development of China-ASEAN relations, so as to jointly bring the all-round mutually beneficial cooperation between China and ASEAN to a new level.
Ambassador Nur Izzah Wong Mee Choo, Permanent Representative of Malaysia, among others, congratulated China on successfully hosting the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and the International Symposium to Commemorate the 10th Anniversary of China's Principle of Amity, Sincerity, Mutual Benefit and Inclusiveness in Neighborhood Diplomacy, stressing that ASEAN countries have benefited a lot from the Belt and Road Initiative, that ASEAN-China relations are the most robust, dynamic and substantive ones among ASEAN's dialogue partnerships, and that China's support is crucial to the building of the ASEAN Community. ASEAN looks forward to working with China to make the "2024 ASEAN-China Year of People-to-People Exchanges" a success, conclude the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement 3.0 Upgrade Negotiations at an early date, deepen cooperation in scientific and technological innovation, emerging industries, education, tourism and other fields, and promote the high-level and sustainable development of ASEAN-China relations.
