On January 16, 2024, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong attended the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) 2024 New Year reception upon invitation.

Sun Weidong expressed in his address that the Central Conference on Work Relating to Foreign Affairs was recently held in Beijing. General Secretary Xi Jinping attended the meeting and delivered an important address. He comprehensively elaborated on the profound connotation of the scientific system of building a community with a shared future for mankind, setting the noble goal for major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics in the new era, and called for an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization and bringing countries together to meet challenges and achieve prosperity for all.

Sun Weidong spoke positively of the achievements made by the BFA and expected the forum to further consolidate consensus among all parties, put forward more Asian solutions, and play an active role in creating a shared Asian home and building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Sun Weidong also expressed China's solemn position on the recent election in the Taiwan region, stressing that he hopes and firmly believes that the international community will continue to adhere to the one-China principle and support the Chinese people's just cause of opposing Taiwan independence and striving for national reunification.

During the event, Sun Weidong also had interactions and exchanges with several diplomatic envoys to China and representatives of international organizations on issues of mutual interest and concern.
