On October 16, 2024, Vice Foreign Minister Deng Li and State Secretary of the German Federal Foreign Office Thomas Bagger co-chaired the first mid-term meeting of the China-Germany inter-governmental consultation in Beijing. Representatives from 23 departments of the two sides attended the meeting and reported the cooperation in their respective fields and the results of counterpart meetings.
Deng Li said, since the seventh China-Germany inter-governmental consultation, the two sides have achieved a series of results in cooperation across various fields. During the mid-term meeting, the counterpart departments of the two sides carefully reviewed the progress of cooperation, reached a lot of common understandings on cooperation, put forward a series of new cooperation ideas and initiatives, and achieved the expected effect of "building on past achievements and looking to the future, tapping potential and accumulating results". Deng Li expressed the hope that the two sides will adhere to a pragmatic and open attitude, seize the opportunities in the era of smart and green development, upgrade China-Germany cooperation, achieve mutual benefit and win-win results, and lay a solid foundation for the eighth China-Germany inter-governmental consultation.
Thomas Bagger said, the mid-term meeting of the Germany-China inter-governmental consultation is a new platform for the two sides to make overall plans and coordinate efforts to advance cooperation in various fields. The fruitful outcomes of the meeting fully demonstrate the breadth and depth of Germany-China cooperation, which is encouraging. Germany is ready to make joint efforts with China to continue to make good use of the mid-term meeting mechanism, push forward the implementation of bilateral cooperation projects, resolve difficulties and problems through consultation, and jointly inject new impetus into the development of Germany-China relations.
