On December 28, 2024, Assistant Foreign Minister Miao Deyu delivered video remarks at the 2024 Annual Academic Conference of the Shanghai Society of International Relations.

Miao Deyu said that in 2024, facing a critical juncture in history, China upheld fairness and justice in diplomacy and responded to a fast-changing landscape with composure and confidence. China's diplomatic efforts have helped foster a favorable external environment for China's high-quality development and provided much-needed stability to a turbulent world. The year 2025 is the final year for the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan, the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-fascist War, and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. China's diplomatic service will rally more closely around the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, study, contemplate, apply and grasp Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy, and strive to break new ground for major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will always adhere to the principle of "open door diplomacy" and will continue to listen to everyone's valuable opinions and suggestions. Miao Deyu expressed the hope that all experts and scholars present will continue to be researchers and practitioners of Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy, think tanks and advisory groups on China's diplomacy, and doers and go-getters who are good narrators of China's stories, and contribute wisdom to the innovation in theory and practice of major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics.
