On July 31, 2025, the 12th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Senior Officials' Meeting was held via video link. The meeting was co-chaired by Senior Official and Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong of China and Senior Official Rujikorn Saengchantr of Thailand, as the co-chair countries of LMC, with senior officials from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Viet Nam in attendance. The six parties reviewed and summarized the progress of the LMC and had an in-depth exchange of views mainly on key cooperation areas for the next stage and the preparations for the 10th LMC Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
Sun Weidong elaborated on the guiding principles of the Central Conference on Work Related to Neighboring Countries. He noted that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the LMC mechanism. In the face of the rapidly evolving global changes unseen in a century and the complex international landscape fraught with changes and turbulence, countries need solidarity and cooperation more than ever before. China will continue to act on the principle of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness in its neighborhood diplomacy, enhance strategic communication, deepen solidarity and cooperation, strengthen security shield, and foster closer people-to-people ties with Mekong countries, so as to inject strong impetus into building a Lancang-Mekong community with a shared future and jointly usher in a new golden decade of the LMC.
All parties highly commended the fruitful outcomes of the LMC and expressed gratitude for the important role of the LMC Special Fund in promoting connectivity and improving people's livelihoods in various countries. They expressed their readiness to strengthen political mutual trust, enhance solidarity and cooperation, carry forward the Lancang-Mekong spirit, promote regional peace, stability and sustainable development together, and jointly advance the building of a Lancang-Mekong community with a shared future for the greater benefit of the people in regional countries.
