On March 25, 2026, Vice Foreign Minister Miao Deyu, upon invitation, attended the opening ceremony of the Eminent Persons Roundtable on China-Africa Cooperation and delivered remarks.
Miao Deyu stated that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Africa, and it is also the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges jointly designated by President Xi Jinping and African leaders. The fourth session of the 14th National People’s Congress adopted the outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan for China, drawing a blueprint for forging new frontiers in Chinese modernization. Amid a volatile and turbulent international landscape with incessant regional turmoil and conflicts, world peace and stability have been severely undermined. China stands ready to work with Africa to jointly advance modernization, uphold international fairness and justice, and inject certainty and stability into the world. The two sides should focus on high-quality development and leverage the fruitful outcomes of China-Africa cooperation to provide new impetus for global development and prosperity. China and Africa should uphold solidarity and self-reliance, work together to build an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for a new era, and set an example for the unity and cooperation of the Global South. Furthermore, both sides should promote mutual learning among civilizations, enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples, and provide a source of momentum for the enduring friendship between China and Africa.
President of the National Assembly of Gabon Michel Régis Onanga M. Ndiaye and Former Prime Minister Essam Sharaf of Egypt, along with other African guests, delivered speeches. They highly commended the vision of a community with a shared future for humanity proposed by President Xi Jinping and expressed their readiness to deepen cooperation with China to jointly promote a fair, inclusive, and balanced new international order. President of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA) Wu Ken stated that China’s people-to-people diplomacy towards Africa will be dedicated to carrying forward traditional friendship, strengthening exchanges, mutual learning, and practical cooperation, and making unremitting efforts to promote China-Africa friendship and cooperation in the new era.
The roundtable, hosted by the CPIFA, was themed “China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and China-Africa Cooperation in the Modernization Drive of the Global South”. More than 60 representatives from various sectors in China and Africa attended the event.
