Updated: May 18, 2001 10:28
Q: What is your comment on IOC's evaluation report on Beijing's bid for the 2008 Olympic Games?

A: The IOC clearly indicates its full recognition in its evaluation report on Beijing's bid for the 2008 Olympic Games of Beijing's bidding concepts and efforts. They maintain that tremendous progress has been made since Beijing's last bid. Beijing enjoys a 94% supporting rate among its population and more than one billion people nationwide support its bid, an advantage that no other city can possibly compete with. The $20 billion investment by Beijing in the construction of sports venues, roads and environment improvement projects is also something that has never been seen in previous Olympic Games. The IOC believes that if Beijing is to host the 2008 Olympic Games, it will surely make it an excellent and exciting Games with sound environment and advanced technology. The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Bid Committee think that IOC's assessment of Beijing is fair, objective and accurate. Beijing has the confidence to go on demonstrating its capacity to host the 2008 Olympic Games through effective and down-to-earth bidding efforts in the remaining two months.
