On May 28, 2026 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar in New York.

Wang Yi stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s successful visit to China has seen the leaders of the two countries reach new important consensus, pushing the construction of the China-Pakistan community with a shared future to a new level. Pakistan has actively participated in Security Council high-level meeting and the meeting of the Group of Friends of Global Governance, and joined other parties in sending out the common voice of revitalizing the authority and core position of the United Nations, as well as reforming and improving global governance. As a non-permanent member of the Security Council, Pakistan has undertaken the responsibility of maintaining international peace and security, which China appreciates.

Wang Yi noted that China-Pakistan friendly cooperation is all-dimensional, all-weather and all-field. The two countries have always trusted each other, united with each other and supported each other at the bilateral, regional and international levels, which is the background of the iron-clad China-Pakistan friendship and the value of the strategic partnership between the two countries. China is willing to work with Pakistan, guided by the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, to maintain high-level exchanges, deepen political mutual trust, expand practical cooperation, enhance Pakistan’s capacity for independent development, and accelerate the building of a closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era.

Mohammad Ishaq Dar said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to China was a great success, which demonstrates the friendship and solidarity between Pakistan and China, and thanked China for the warm and friendly reception. The current multilateral system is weakened, and the task of reform is more urgent. China’s initiative to convene the Security Council high-level meeting is timely, which has won support from all parties and achieved positive results. Pakistan is willing to work with China to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen the docking of development strategies, promote the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, deepen cooperation in various fields, and push the Pakistan-China all-weather strategic cooperative partnership to continuous development. The International Organization for Mediation has been established and operates in Hong Kong, advocating mediation instead of litigation, which reflects the advantages of Eastern practice. Pakistan will continue to fully support China’s series of initiatives and jointly practice multilateralism.

The two sides also exchanged views on the situation in Iran. Wang Yi said that Pakistan has actively mediated the U.S.-Iran negotiations, and is a reliable and qualified mediator. China will continue to support Pakistan’s efforts for peace, jointly push all parties to adhere to dialogue and negotiation, promote a comprehensive ceasefire, and restore peace and stability in the Middle East and Gulf region as soon as possible. Mohammad Ishaq Dar thanked China for its support to Pakistan’s mediation efforts, and said that Pakistan and China put forward a five-point initiative for peace and stability in the Middle East and Gulf region, which has won extensive support. Pakistan will continue to play a constructive role in cooling down the situation.
