Hu Jintao Meets with Prime Minister of Myanmar

On the afternoon of February 15, 2006, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Prime Minister of Myanmar Soe Win in the Great Hall of the People. Hu said that in the new century with the joint promotion by both sides bilateral relations have made new headway with frequent exchanges between top leaders of the two countries. Bilateral cooperation in the areas of economy & trade, culture & education, health, tourism and narcotics control has been continuously strengthened and scored a range of positive achievements and both sides also maintained close coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs. Hu pointed out that both countries, which are close to each other geographically, are developing nations and to further develop bilateral friendly cooperative relations enjoys a sound basis and many favorable conditions. Under the new situation of the new century, China would like to work with Myanmar to adhere to the foreign policies of "treating neighbors well and as partners" and "bringing harmony, security and prosperity to neighbors" and continuously strengthen and deepen bilateral pragmatic cooperation in various areas in a bid to push bilateral relations of good-neighborliness and friendly cooperation to a higher level and bring benefits to both countries and their people. Soe Win indicated that during his current visit to China he witnessed great achievements in China's development and reached many consensuses with Chinese leaders on further developing bilateral friendly cooperative relations and both sides signed a couple of cooperative documents, which has made the visit a great success. The government and people of Myanmar sincerely thank for China's support and assistance for Myanmar's national development and would like to remain China's sincere friend forever. Myanmar commits to state stability, national reconciliation, economic growth and improvement of people's livelihood, hopes to draw lessons from China's successful development experience and strengthen bilateral cooperation and would like to jointly safeguard regional peace and security with China. Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing and other officials attended the meeting.
