Chinese Embassy in Afghanistan, Afghanistan-China Friendship Association and Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies Jointly Hold the Seminar on China-Afghanistan Relations

On March 31st, 2015, Chinese Embassy in Afghanistan, Afghanistan-China Friendship Association and Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies jointly held the Seminar on China-Afghanistan Relations titled “Deepen Substantial Cooperation, Seek Long-Term Development” in Kabul, capital of Afghanistan. Over 70 delegates from China and Afghanistan were present, including H.E. Mr. Deng Xijun, Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan, Mr. Chen Shijie, Political Counsellor of Chinese Embassy, Mr. Wang Daohao, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of Chinese Embassy, and H.E. Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta, Former Afghan National Security Advisor to the President, H.E. Dr. Sayed Makhdum Raheen, Chairman of Afghanistan-China Friendship Association, H.E. Dr. Habibullah Habib, Chancellor of Kabul University, Mr. Baryalai Sabir Barya, Director General of the Parliamentary Affairs Department of Foreign Ministry of Afghanistan, Dr. Davood Moradian, Director-General of Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies, representatives from the National Assembly of Afghanistan and think tanks as well as the diplomats of Chinese Embassy.

Ambassador Deng spoke highly of China-Afghanistan friendly and cooperative relations, and said that this year not only marks the 60th anniversary of establishment of the diplomatic relations as well as the Year of Friendship and Cooperation between China and Afghanistan, but also the first year for Afghanistan of entering the period of transformation. China is willing to play a greater constructive role in Afghanistan, continue to support the effective administration of the Afghan National Unity Government, support the reconciliation between the Afghan Government and various political factions including the Taliban, support the economic and social reconstruction of Afghanistan, support Afghanistan’s integration in regional cooperation, and work with the international community to make unremitting efforts to realize the successful transition of Afghanistan. The Chinese Government is actively promoting the strategic concept of “One Belt and One Road”, and issued the Vision and Actions on Jointly Building Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road on March 28th, 2015. China is willing to take this opportunity to push China-Afghanistan economic and trade cooperation to a new high.

Dr. Spanta briefly reviewed the history of the exchanges between Afghanistan and China, and said developing friendly relationship with China is one of the major pillars of Afghan foreign policy. Afghanistan is willing to continuously strengthen cooperation with China in areas such as security, economy and trade, and jointly open a brighter chapter of the two countries and the whole asia as well.

Dr. Raheen said that the Chinese and the Afghan peoples enjoy a long history of friendship. Now the friendly exchanges of youth, think tanks and media between the two countries become more and more frequent, and the bilateral relations have been continuously developing. The Afghanistan-China Friendship Association is committed to strengthening bilateral cooperation in culture and other fields, deepening the bilateral exchanges and mutual trust, so as to make more contributions to promoting the Afghanistan-China friendship.

The Seminar conducted in-depth and frank discussions focusing on the substantial cooperation between China and Afghanistan in politics, economy, security, culture, Afghan peace and reconciliation process and other fields. The seminar was held in a warm atmosphere, and the participants had a lively interaction. All participants agreed that through the joint efforts of people from all walks of lives in both countries, the future cooperation between China and Afghanistan in all fields has promising prospects, and will certainly display new vigor and dynamism.

After the seminar, Ambassador Deng held a reception for the participants in the Embassy. The event was covered by Kabul Times, Kabul News TV, Negaah TV Network, Shamshad TV and other Afghan major media, and Xinhua News Agency, CCTV correspondents in Afghanistan.
