Chinese Embassy in Australia Hosts Ceremony for Chinese Government Award Winners

On 19 May 2017, the Chinese Embassy in Australia hosted a ceremony for 11 outstanding self-financed students winning Chinese Government Award 2016. H.E. Ambassador Cheng Jingye presented awards to the winners and delivered a speech.

Ambassador Cheng extended his congratulations to all government award recipients. He pointed out that China attaches great importance to the value of overseas Chinese students by building a variety of platforms to help achieve their ambitions. He encouraged them to exert more efforts, get prepared for serving the community and motherland, and commit themselves to promoting mutual understanding and friendship between China and Australia. In addition he sent his best wishes to all Chinese students and scholars for safe stay and rewarding work in Australia.

Dr Sun Zhiyong, an award winner graduated from ANU, commented that it is his great honor to win the scholarship. He was grateful for the expectations from his motherland and realized his responsibility to make more achievements in his field as soon as possible.

The Chinese government attaches great importance to how Chinese students and scholars study and work overseas. Since 2003 when Chinese Ministries of Finance and Education rolled out the Government Award Program to honor overseas Chinese students with outstanding academic accomplishments, more than 5400 students around the world have won the award.
