Chinese Embassy in FSM welcomes new DCM, bids farewell to outgoing

On the evening of December 18th, 2018, H.E. Huang Zheng, Chinese Ambassador to the FSM, held a reception at Cupid's Bar & Grille, Pohnpei, to bid farewell to Mme. Li Cuiying, outgoing Councilor and DCM of the Embassy, as well as to welcome the new Councilor and DCM, Mr. Zhang Weitao. H.E. Yosiwo George, Vice President of the FSM, Hon. Lorin Robert, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Robert Riley, U.S. Ambassador, H.E. George Fraser, Australian Ambassador, other cabinet members, officials of the national government and Pohnpei state government, members of the private sector, academia, health sector, diplomatic corps and Chinese compatriots and company managers were among the some 150 guests who attended the reception.

Ambassador Huang Zheng, in his address to the function, highly commented on Mme. Li Cuiying's efforts and achievements in promoting the friendly cooperation and exchanges between China and the FSM, extended warm welcome to Mr. Zhang Weitao, and called upon continued support to the Embassy and Mr. Zhang from friends all across the FSM. Underlining the significant achievements of the summit between H.E. Chinese President Xi Jinping and H.E. President Peter Christian of the FSM in Papua New Guinea, which elevated the bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Ambassador Huang pledged China's ongoing support and assistance to the FSM within her capabilities, with increased emphasis on the education and health sectors and people-to-people relations, to promote the sustainable development of the FSM and the inter-connections of the two countries. He encouraged the FSM to consolidate the partnership with China and to jointly pursue the Belt and Road Initiative and to build the Community with a Shared Future for the Humanity.

 

Councilor Li Cuiying sentimentally shared with the guests her personal experiences and feelings over her tenure of more than 3 years in the FSM and expressed sincere gratitudes to all who supported and helped in her endeavors. Councilor Zhang Weitao, in his remarks, felt pleased to be posted in the FSM and promised to follow the leadership of Ambassador Huang Zheng heart and soul, working with friends from all walks of life to build the China-FSM Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to a new height.

 

Both Vice President George and Secretary Robert spoke highly of the sound cooperations and exchanges between the FSM and China in various areas and extended their heart-felt appreciation to China's selfless assistance to the FSM. They reaffirmed the FSM's willingness to heed the call of Chinese President Xi Jinping, contributing to the joint pursuit of the Belt and Road Initiative and the building of the Community with a Shared Future for the Humanity. They praised Mme. Li's excellent job and congratulated on Mr. Zhang for assuming the new mantle.

One after another, the guests extended their regrets in parting with the outgoing DCM and welcomed the new one, wishing both of them, along with the China-FSM relations, all the best.
