2021-09-29

On September 29, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone conversation with Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard.

Wang Yi said, this year marks the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 200th anniversary of victory in the Mexican War of Independence, which is of great significance to both China and Mexico. Both China and Mexico are major countries in the region with important influence, representative emerging markets and major developing countries with time-honored civilizations and similar historical experiences, and shoulder the important task of working for national rejuvenation and happiness of the people, and a common mission of upholding international fairness and justice. In recent years, under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Mexico comprehensive strategic partnership has grown steadily, with deepening political mutual trust, closer strategic coordination and strong resilience in economic and trade cooperation. The two countries' solidarity in fighting COVID-19 and vaccine cooperation has injected strong impetus into bilateral relations. The two sides have closely coordinated and supported each other in the international and multilateral arenas. China attaches great importance to developing relations with Mexico and is ready to work with Mexico to take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties next year as an opportunity to enhance planning and elevate China-Mexico comprehensive strategic partnership to a higher level.

Wang Yi said, China's official application to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) demonstrates China's firm resolve in expanding opening-up and is also an important measure China has taken to help advance globalization. China is ready to work with all parties to make the CPTPP more representative and play a positive role in promoting trade and investment liberalization and facilitation and the trend of economic globalization.

Wang Yi said, China extends congratulations on and appreciates Mexico's success in holding the 6th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) recently and its contributions to revitalizing the CELAC and promoting regional integration. China attaches great importance to developing relations with the CELAC and will continue to support the CELAC in enhancing solidarity and development. China looks forward to maintaining close communication with Mexico and other CELAC countries to ensure the success of the Third Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum this year and inject new momentum into the in-depth development of China-CELAC relations.

Ebrard said, under the guidance of the two heads of state, Mexico-China relations have made significant progress. He thanked China for its strong support for Mexico's fight against the pandemic and agreed to strengthen cooperation in digital economy and other emerging industries. Mexico is ready to work with China to take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties as an opportunity to push for the development of bilateral relations. Mexico firmly adheres to the one-China policy, abides by the principle of non-interference in other countries' internal affairs and supports China's legitimate propositions on issues related to Taiwan, Xinjiang, Hong Kong and Xizang. Mexico appreciates and welcomes China's application to join the CPTPP, and stands ready to communicate with China on this. Mexico will work with China to ensure the success of the Third Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum.
