Chinese Ambassador to India Sun Weidong sends video congratulatory message on the commemorative cover of the 70th anniversary of China-India diplomatic ties

Chinese Ambassador to India H.E. Sun Weidong sent a video congratulatory message on the issue of the commemorative cover on the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and India on April 1, 2020. The full text of the video message is as follows:

My dear Indian friends, Namaste!

The People's Republic of China and the Republic of India established our diplomatic relations on April 1, 1950. Today is the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two great countries. China National Philatelic Corporation issued this commemorative cover. You can see on the cover the picture of opera and dance. The opera is the Liyuan Opera of Quanzhou, Fujian province. And dance is the Bharatanatyam from state of Tamil Nadu. As far as 1000 years ago in Song and Yuan Dynasties in China, there were a large number of Indians who did business and settled in Quanzhou city. Last year President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held the second informal summit in Mahabalipuram. During the summit, the two leaders agreed that Quanzhou city and Chennai, Fujian province and Tamil Nadu, will establish sister cities and provinces. The picture of this commemorative cover shows this ancient cultural linkage between the two places. Now let's look at the postmark of this cover. It's called "twin lotuses". Lotus has a profound connotation in both countries' culture. It symbolizes the deep cultural origin of China and India and reflects each other.

To share the special commemoration of the 70th anniversary of our diplomatic ties, my Embassy here in India will send 1000 commemorative covers to our Indian friends, and I will sign the first 100 of them. Please send email to the following email address We will deliver it to you by post on first-come-first-served basis.
