Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Meets with AU Commission Deputy Chairperson Mwencha


On the morning of September 14, 2010, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met in the Foreign Ministry with Erastus Mwencha, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, who is visiting China at invitation. Both sides exchanged views on China-Africa, China-AU relations and other issues.

Yang spoke highly of the important role of the AU in African affairs and China-Africa relations, expressing China's readiness to maintain high-level exchanges with the AU, to deepen concrete cooperation in all fields and to strengthen coordination and cooperation on important international and regional affairs in a bid to push forward the new China-Africa strategic partnership.

Mwencha thanked China for its support for peace and development in Africa. The AU was willing to actively participate in the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and make joint efforts with China to implement the results achieved at the fourth ministerial meeting of the forum so as to deepen China-Africa traditional friendship, he said.
