2012/11/20

China will do everything within its power to support Myanmar's hosting of the SEA Games to be held next year.

China's top official for cultural affairs made the commitment during a bilateral meeting on 19 November, with his Myanmar counterpart who was visiting Beijing to discuss ways and means to deepen cultural exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Cai Wu had in-depth exchanges of views with U Aye Myint Kyo, the newly appointed Myanmar cultural minister on China's planned assistance to Myanmar's hosting of the Games, particularly the opening and closing ceremonies.

"This cooperation project has strong endorsement from China's state leaders ", Mr. Cai said, adding that "my Ministry will coordinate with the Ministry of Commerce and State General Administration of Sports and do all we can to support your work ".

During a visit of Mr. Wu Bangguo, China's top legislator to Myanmar in mid September this year, the two governments signed a framework agreement on this cooperation project.

U Aye Myint Kyo expressed his appreciation to China's assistance to Myanmar's hosting of the SEA Games. "I am confident that our cooperation on the Games will bring new opportunities for our exchanges in the areas of humanities".

Earlier this month, Myanmar's Deputy Minister for Sports travelled to Beijing to discuss the implementation of the project.

On the evening of 18 November, U Aye Myint Kyo paid a call to the China-Myanmar Friendship Association.
