Distinguished Guests,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good evening!

First of all on behalf of all the Embassy staff and myself, I wish to express my sincere thanks and warmest welcome to all my friends for coming to today’s occasion, celebrating the 68th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

The video just now has vividly illustrated the historic changes of China over the past 68 years. On 1 October 1949, Chairman Mao Zedong solemnly declared the birth of New China in Tiananmen Rostrum. With the hard work of the Chinese people for 68 years, China has turned itself from a weak and poor country to one of the world powers. Particularly, in less than 5 years after the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), China’s economic and social development has made historic achievements under the leadership of CPC Central Committee with President Xi Jinping as the core. China is now the world’s second biggest economy, the biggest manufacturing country, the biggest trading nation. China is contributing an annual average of 31.6% to the world’s economic growth, more than the sum of those of the United States, Euro zone and Japan. At the same time, China is promoting sustainable development strategy by implementing the concept of innovation, coordination, green, open and shared development, persisting in administering the country according to law, protecting the ecological environment and improving people's well-being. By 2021, we are expected to achieve the first "Centenary Dream" of becoming a country of moderate prosperity. China, as a responsible country, is committed to building a new international relations system, with the core of cooperation and win-win in promoting diplomatic discourse with Chinese characteristics. China strives to make its own achievements also benefit other countries, by actively fulfilling international responsibilities and contributing China's wisdom and plan for world development and global governance, which has won international acclamation.

2017 is a year of brilliant achievements of innovation for China. It is well known that ancient China has four great inventions including paper-making, compass, gunpowder and printing. And now, in the eyes of foreigners, "the new four inventions", namely high-speed train, Alipay, shared bikes and online shopping, are changing people's work and life in a profound way. In 2017, China has done a lot in the field of scientific and technological innovation: the newest high-speed train has been put into use, running more than 350 km per hour; China’s first passenger plane C919 has made its successful maiden flight; quantum communication technology continues to be world-leading; Tianzhou-1, Beidou-3 and Chang'e-5 spacecrafts are traveling in space, which are greatly supported by China’s TT&C Station in Namibia. Today, from "Made in China 2025" to Internet of Things, big data, cloud computing and other new technologies, from aerospace, marine industry, to chip-manufacturing and other frontier areas, China's innovative power and China's talents are coming to the fore. Innovation is truely becoming the most powerful driver of China's development.

Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen!

China attaches great importance to its relations with Africa and China’s relations with Africa is the very foundation of its diplomacy. China and Africa are good friends, brothers and partners for ever. During the Johannesburg Summit of FOCAC, President Xi Jinping had agreed with African leaders to promote our relationship to comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. By implementing the 10 major cooperation projects issued by the Summit, China-Africa relations is making progress and get new vitality.

Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen!

Namibia is an all-weather friend of China. Our traditional friendship has been greatly enhanced since the building of the diplomatic ties 27 years ago. President Xi Jinping and President Hage Geingob met during the Johannesburg Summit of FOCAC and reached important consensuses on deepening our pragmatic cooperation. Hon. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of MIRCO, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah successfully visited China this April. Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, First Deputy Premier of the State Council, Hon. Zhang Gaoli visited Namibia this August and had fruitful talks with Namibian leaders. The high-level exchanges have consolidated our traditional friendship, deepened our pragmatic cooperation and promoted our “all-weather” cooperation partnership to a new level.

Nowadays China and Namibia are both trying to boost our economy and people’s livelihood. Under the strong leadership of President Xi Jinping, Chinese people are making efforts to realize the Two Centenary Goals and the China dream of national rejuvenation, while Namibian people are working hard under the guidance of President Hage Geingob, to implement Harambee Prosperity Plan, NDP5 and Vision 2030. Our dreams share a lot in common, which enables us to work side by side in pursuing our development and prosperity goals. A new era of our relations is at our doorstep and its future is promising.

The development of China-Namibia relations is indebted to the close cooperation between CPC and SWAPO Party, which will hold 19th National Congress in October and 6th National Congress in November respectively. I believe the new leaders elected by two sides will carry forward fine traditions and promote our all-weather partnership to a new historical height.

Last but not least, please allow me extend my sincere thanks once again, to all friends who have done so much for China-Namibia friendship.

May I propose a toast:

To the solidarity of China-Namibia friendship,

To the health of H.E. President Xi Jinping and H.E. President Hage Geingob,

Thank you!
