Wang Yi: The "Belt and Road" is Emphasis and Highlight of China-Philippines Cooperation

On July 25, 2017 local time, when jointly meeting the press with Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano of the Philippines in Manila, Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed that the "Belt and Road" is a cooperation platform featuring openness, inclusiveness, mutual benefit and win-win results, and the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" is the emphasis and highlight for China-Philippines cooperation in the next phase.

Wang Yi said that the Philippines was once an important pivot along the ancient Maritime Silk Road. Back then, Chinese merchant ships departed from Quanzhou, Fujian, and arrived at the first stop, Luzon, which is today's Philippines. Throughout history, China and the Philippines have shared geographic proximity, close bloodline and cultural affinity, and were closely linked by historical friendship and cooperation. No matter from which perspective, the Philippines is always an indispensable and important partner in the joint construction of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. The joint construction of the "Belt and Road" will not only open up new prospects for China-Philippines mutually beneficial cooperation, but also provide more enduring and robust impetus for the self-development of the Philippines.
