Your Excellency Vice President Mr. Vincent Meriton,

Heads of diplomatic missions,

Distinguished Guest,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good evening! Today, we gather here to celebrate the 68th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. First of all, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Seychelles, I would like to extend my warmest welcome to all the guests present here, and also my heartfelt gratitude to all the friends who have long been caring for China's development and devoting to China-Seychelles friendship.

The foundation of the People's Republic of China on 1 October 1949 opened a new era of China's development. Over the past 68 years, the Chinese Communist Party has led and united the Chinese people in obtaining remarkable achievements in national development. We have completed the industrialization process that took developed countries hundreds of years and have developed a poor and weak country into the world's second largest economy. China has steadily improved people's living standards, strengthened capability of scientific and technological innovation and achieved development by leaps and bounds in national defense and armed forces modernization.

In 2017, China made important progress in focusing on deepening reform in various fields. In the first half year, GDP grew by 6.9%, which is higher than market expectations. Significant breakthroughs were made in science and technology. To name a few, China's first domestically-built large passenger jet C919 successfully completed its maiden flight. China's first home-constructed aircraft carrier hit the water. Chinese scientists built the world's first quantum computing machine. China's domestically-made manned submersible set a new deep-diving world record. In the "Internet +" era, new services such as mobile payment, online car hailing and bicycle-sharing are sweeping the country and bringing great convenience and profound changes to people's lives.

On 18 October, the Communist Party of China will hold its 19th National Congress and map out the grand blueprint for China's future development and foreign relations. In the coming five years, China is expected to import 8 trillion US dollars of goods. China's outbound investment will reach 750 billion USD and the number of outbound tourists will reach 700 million. We firmly believe that China's development will bring more opportunities to the world and better benefit people of all countries.

Ladies and Gentlemen, dear friends,

As a responsible big country, China has always been a firm force in safeguarding world peace and development, promoting world mutipolarization, economic globalization and democratization of international relations. China actively promotes a new type of international relations featuring win-win Cooperation and a community of shared future for mankind. China is committed to taking on more international responsibilities and obligations within its capabilities, deeply involving in international peacekeeping operations, jointly tackling global challenges such as climate change and major regional issues, and initiatively providing global public goods represented by the Belt and Road Initiative.

China and African countries are a community of common destiny. Under the joint efforts of China and Africa, the outcomes of the Johannesburg Summit of the FOCAC are being implemented quickly and comprehensively. The Fourth Round of Political Consultation between Chinese and African Foreign Ministers on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York held a week ago has injected new impetus into the development of FOCAC and China-Africa relations. We will continue to practice the principles of sincerity, practical results, affinity and good faith put forth by President Xi Jinping, synergize the "ten cooperation plans" with the Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, support African countries to speed up industrialization and agricultural modernization, and actively participate in the cause of peace and security in Africa to help boost Africa's overall stability, development and revitalization.

Ladies and Gentlemen, dear friends,

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 41 years ago, China and Seychelles have always maintained the principle of sincerity, friendship, equality, mutual trust, and win-win cooperation. Bilateral relations have enjoyed smooth development. We have obtained fruitful results of pragmatic cooperation in various fields and supported each other in international affairs, setting up an example of unity and cooperation between large and small countries.

In 2017, China-Seychelles relations continue to maintain a good momentum of development with fruitful results in cooperation in political, economic, trade, culture, education, military and other areas. At the beginning of the year, the 4th Seychelles-China Day was successfully held. In May, China and Seychelles signed a MoU regarding construction of a low-carbon demonstration zone in Seychelles to tackle climate change. In June, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Ambassador Xu Jinghu visited Seychelles. In July, China aided Corgat Estate Redevelopment Project started. In August, China signed the agreement with Seychelles for financing and construction of the Seychelles Radio and Broadcasting House. 8 Seychellois applicants were awarded Chinese Government Scholarship and left for university study in Beijing, Shanghai and other big cities in China. In September, the 7th group of Chinese volunteers concluded their mission in Seychelles and returned home. This year, more than 100 Seychellois have participated in workshops in China. The Seychelles Tourism Board has launched promotions in Chinese cities such as Beijing, Guangzhou and Chengdu. The two countries signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on tourism cooperation in mid-September. On the other hand, Chinese delegations from Guangdong, Hainan, Liaoning and Hubei have visited Seychelles.

Now China-Seychelles friendship is flourishing and vibrant. Let us work together to push the friendly and cooperative relations between China and Seychelles to a new high to better benefit the two countries and the two peoples.

Now, I would like to propose a toast,

to the 68th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China,

to the promising future of China-Seychelles relations and the profound friendship between the two peoples,

to the health of all the guests and your families,
