Remarks by Ambassador Gui Congyou at the Photo Exhibition "China through Swedish Eyes"

Chief Editor of Greenpost Ms. Chen Xuefei,

Kamera & Bild Photographer Mr. Claes Grundsten,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Dear Friends,

It gives me great pleasure to attend the opening ceremony of the photo exhibition China through Swedish Eyes, co-hosted by Greenpost and Kamera & Bild magazine. On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Sweden, I would like to warmly welcome all of the friends here, and extend my warm congratulations on the opening of the exhibition.

Photos on display were shot in China by friends from Swedish media and Swedish photography lovers. Recently, Chief Editor Ms. Chen Xuefei was in Xinjiang to cover stories and more than 10 Swedish journalists and photography lovers visited Beijing, Zhangjiajie and Guilin to take pictures. Pictures of a true and real China were recorded in their cameras, including Yardang landscape of Altay, three thousand rock ridges of Zhangjiajie, China-Europe Freight Train connecting the Eurasian continent, the booming wind power industry, ethnic groups living in harmony in Xinjiang and an old man in a leaf cape fishing alone on Li River in Guilin. These pictures give us a window to China’s beautiful scenery and harmonious society. It is truly a cultural feast. I believe you will feel China’s profound culture and the vitality of modern China.

This photo exhibition is also a positive outcome of friendly exchanges between China and Sweden. Though geographically far apart, friendship between China and Sweden goes far back in history. In the new era, it is ever more important for our two countries to understand each other, respect each other, communicate with each other and learn from each other. Forty years of reform and opening up not only brought China deeper into the world, but also presented a whole new China to the world. China is not the same country 40 years ago. As Chinese people often say, seeing is believing. We welcome different sectors of our two countries to visit and talk to each other more. In particular, we hope more Swedish friends will visit China and see with their own eyes a modern China, experience the Chinese culture, and progress and vitality of the Chinese society, and most importantly, friendship and hospitality of the Chinese people.

Finally I wish this exhibition a great success. Thank you.
