Xi Jinping Meets with President Almazbek Atambayev of Kyrgyzstan

On May 16, 2017, President Xi Jinping met with President Almazbek Atambayev of Kyrgyzstan at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, who was in China for the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF).

Xi Jinping pointed out that since the establishment of China-Kyrgyzstan diplomatic relations 25 years ago, under the principle of mutual respect and win-win cooperation, both sides have actively promoted bilateral relations, forming a comprehensive cooperation pattern featured by high degree of political mutual trust, close economic cooperation, mutual reliance on security, cultural exchanges and mutual learning as well as mutual support in international affairs. China is willing to work with Kyrgyzstan to carry forward the spirit of good-neighborly friendship, strengthen strategic coordination and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, so as to constantly push forward China-Kyrgyzstan strategic partnership.

Xi Jinping stressed that China supports Kyrgyzstan's efforts in safeguarding independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and supports Kyrgyzstan’s development path suitable to its own national conditions and the domestic and foreign policies the country pursues. China and Kyrgyzstan are two important forces to safeguard the security and stability of the region. The two sides should strengthen security cooperation in counter-terrorism and law enforcement, and jointly safeguard the security and stability of the two countries and the region. Centering on the "Belt and Road" construction, China and Kyrgyzstan have made remarkable achievements since the two sides actively conducted cooperation over three years ago. Both sides should implement well key cooperation projects, in a bid to bring more benefits of the "Belt and Road" initiative to the two peoples.

Almazbek Atambayev expressed his sincere congratulations to China on the successful holding of the BRF. The great “Belt and Road” initiative will be conducive to enhancing international cooperation and increasing mutual understanding and mutual trust among all parties. China is Kyrgyzstan's good neighbor, good partner and good friend. Currently, the two countries enjoy high-level development of the strategic partnership. Kyrgyzstan appreciates China for its continued strong support and help and will firmly support China’s stance on issues concerning its core interests and major concerns. Kyrgyzstan is willing to work with China to strengthen cooperation in such areas as economy, trade as well as security and actively promote the construction of major infrastructure projects.
