Chinese Embassy Held a Reception for 2019 Dragon Boat Festival

On May 31, 2019, the Chinese Embassy in the United States hosted a reception for the Dragon Boat Festival. Nearly 200 overseas Chinese, including Taiwan compatriots, and Chinese students from Greater Washington area gathered to celebrate the traditional Chinese festival. Minister Xu Xueyuan and Minister Counselor Zhong Ruiming attended the event.

On behalf of Ambassador Cui Tiankai, Minister Xu extended warm greetings to all the guests. She said, the Dragon Boat Festival has deep historical traditions. Devotion to both the family and the nation is a spiritual strength of the Chinese nation and has encouraged the Chinese people to strive and persevere across the history. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Over the past seven decades, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese people have made great achievements in various fields. As the Chinese nation moves toward rejuvenation, people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits will share the responsibility and the glory of national rejuvenation. We have learned from the 40-year history of diplomatic relations that developing relations between the two countries is in the fundamental interests of the two peoples. Cooperation is the only correct choice for us. The foundation of China-US friendship is deep and solid and the future course of the relations needs to be charted by the two peoples. It is hoped that the overseas Chinese compatriots will continue to contribute to China-US friendship, to peaceful development of cross-Straits relations and to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

While tasting traditional food such as Zongzi, the guests enjoyed a Chinese martial arts show and solo singing by the children from the Embassy Sunshine School and a dance performance by Fairfax Dance Art School. They also watched Chinese traditional tea ceremony and folk musical instrument performances. Imbued with elements of the Chinese culture, the reception was like a family reunion.
