Minister Xu Xueyuan Attended Chinese Festival in Delaware

On June 21-22, Minister Xu Xueyuan and Counselor Li Min attended the 2019 Chinese Festival in Delaware organized by the Chinese American Community Center (CACC). Present at the event were Senator Chris Coons, Governor John Carney, Lieutenant Governor Bethany Hall-Long of Delaware and other local dignitaries.

Minister Xu made a warm speech at the event. She extended sincere congratulations on the success of the Chinese Festival on behalf of Ambassador Cui Tiankai and spoke highly of the contribution made by the local Chinese community to promoting Chinese culture and strengthening China-US cultural exchanges and people-to-people friendship. In light of the theme of the festival — Chinese characters, Minister Xu gave an explanation of the structure of the Chinese character “人”(people). She said that “人”(people) is composed of two mutually-supporting strokes. It reflects the traditional idea that people should support each other. Similarly, if China and the United States support each other, it will make both stronger. She sincerely hoped that the Chinese community and local people would work together for China-US friendship.

The American dignitaries at the event are frequent visitors to the Chinese festival. Governor Carney said, the Chinese Festival has become an important cultural asset for local Chinese Americans in Delaware and an important part of Delaware’s diverse cultures, and has helped pool the people together. Senator Coons affirmed in his speech the contribution made by the CACC and local Chinese Americans to Delaware’s economic and social development through decades. He expressed best wishes for a better future of the Chinese festival.

This year marks the 26th anniversary of the Chinese Festival since its launch in 1992. Each time it attracts thousands of local people. In addition to Chinese food, there are also a variety of performances such as dragon and lion dances, Chinese martial arts, folk dances, and exhibitions of Chinese calligraphy, kites, porcelain, bronzeware, etc., to give all the guests a great time.
