On September 27, 2021, Ambassador Qin Gang, new Permanent Observer of China to the Organization of American States (OAS), met with Mr. Luis Almagro, OAS Secretary General, and exchanged views with him on China's relations with Latin America and the Caribbean.

Ambassador Qin said, President Xi Jinping has visited the LAC region five times and proposed a range of important initiatives and measures, which have promoted significantly the development of China-LAC relations. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, China and the LAC region have helped each other and carried out all-around cooperation against the pandemic. China-LAC relations have entered a new era featuring equality, mutual benefit, innovation, openness and tangible benefits for the people. As a multilateral organization with a long history, the OAS has been playing a positive role in the peace and stability of the Western Hemisphere. China values the relations with the OAS and stands ready to cooperate with it to help regional countries overcome the pandemic at an early date and resume economic and social development, so as to build a community with a shared future between China and the LAC region.

Secretary General Almagro welcomed Ambassador Qin on his new post, and said that China has become the biggest trading partner of many LAC countries, and Chinese investment has been contributing to their socioeconomic development and better livelihoods of the people. The vaccines provided by China have been critical for the region's fight against the pandemic. The OAS is delighted to see further development of China-LAC relations.
