Indian Vice President Hamid Ansari Meets with Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi

On March 1, 2012, Indian Vice President Hamid Ansari met with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi in New Delhi.

Hamid Ansari said that India-China relations are moving forward on the right track. The Indian side is pleased to see productive results in bilateral cooperation in various fields. India and China are committed to promoting regional peace, stability and prosperity. The two sides should further expand mutual investment, increase exchanges between business leaders, promote provincial and local-level exchanges and push for further growth of friendly cooperations to the benefit of the two peoples. India and China have identical positions on such major global issues as climate change and have conducted sound coordination and cooperation. It will be important for India and China to step up coordination and jointly uphold the common interests of the two countries and the developing countries as a whole.

Yang Jiechi said that the relations between China and India had kept a sound momentum of steady growth in recent years. There have been frequent visits and contacts between leaders of the two countries. Political mutual trust has been increasing and economic cooperation and trade are growing rapidly. The two sides are exploring ways to expand practical cooperation and have good coordination with each other on international and regional issues.

Yang Jiechi said that China and India are important neighbors to each other. They are both major developing countries and emerging economies. Faced with the common task of accelerating economic development, they share extensive common interests. Under the current international situation, the two countries are blessed with important opportunities to develop their relations. China stands ready to work together with India to uphold good-neighbourly friendship, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, increase people-to-people exchanges and enhance coordination on international and regional issues, thus advancing China-India relations to new heights. Yang Jiechi emphasized that the the Chinese side is ready to fully cooperate with the Indian side to make the BRICS Summit to be held in New Delhi at the end of March a success.

Yang Jiechi arrived in New Delhi on the evening of February 29 for an official visit to India.
