Minister Counselor Zhang Min Attends First China-US
Sub-national Legislatures Cooperation Forum

From June 24 to 26 of 2016, Minister Counselor Zhang Min attended the First China-US Sub-national Legislatures Cooperation Forum held in Honolulu, Hawaii. Minister Counselor Zhang delivered a speech of congratulations at the opening ceremony of the Forum, on behalf of Ambassador Cui Tiankai and the Chinese Embassy as well as the Consulates-General in the US.

The Forum, co-hosted by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) and US State Legislative Leaders Foundation (SLLF), aims to implement one of the important outcomes of President Xi Jinping's state visit to the US, and to promote the exchanges and cooperation between the sub-national legislatures of China and the US. There were about 150 people attending the Forum, including President Li Xiaolin of CPAFFC, leaders from the provincial People's Congress of Jiangsu, Hebei,Hubei and Sichuan, officials from the Chinese Embassy and the Consulates-General in the US, President Lakis of SLLF, 28 state legislative leaders from 21 US states, and the entrepreneurs from both China and the US. The delegates of both sides had in-depth discussions on how to promote tourism cooperation through legislation, strengthen the partnership between Chinese provinces and the US states, create a business friendly environment, etc. Several exchanges and cooperation agreements and letters of intent were signed during the Forum. Minister Zhu Hong made a keynote speech on creating a business friendly environment. During the Forum, Governor Ige of Hawaii held a welcoming dinner for both the Chinese and American guests in his official residence.

The Second China-US Sub-national Legislatures Cooperation Forum will be held in Wuhan, Hubei Province in 2017.
