Ambassador Chen said that UCT is a world-renowned university and has made impressive contributions to the world's academic progress. The Chinese Embassy in South Africa is ready to serve as a bridge for cooperation between UCT and Chinese universities and educational institutions, and the two sides should deepen cooperation in teaching and scientific research, strengthen language teaching cooperation, promote two-way student exchanges and pay attention to international and regional studies.

Vice-Chancellor Phakeng welcomed Ambassador Chen to take up his new post in South Africa and gave high appreciation to the key role of the Confucius Institute jointly established by UCT and Sun Yat-Sen University in promoting UCT’s cooperation and exchanges with China. She said that UCT is poised to continue to run the Confucius Institute in a productive manner and hopes to cooperate with more top Chinese universities in teaching, research and student exchanges in the future. She also looked forward to Ambassador Chen’s visit to the University of Cape Town at an early date.
