China and India 70th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations Commemorative Volume Gets Released

China and India 70th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations Commemorative Volume complied by Chinese Consulate General in Kolkata was released recently after strenuous efforts in half a year.

On April 1, 1950, China and India usher in the important moment of establishing diplomatic relations. Looking back at the past 70 years, China-India relations have gone through an extraordinary development path. In the 1950s, the leaders of the two countries jointly advocated the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. "Hindi Chini Bhai Bhai" (Indians and Chinese are brothers) resounded throughout our two countries. In the 21st Century, the two countries established strategic and cooperative partnership for peace and prosperity, and achieved all-round development of bilateral relations. Since 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the "hometown diplomacy", held two informal summits in Wuhan and Chennai respectively, carried out strategic communication on overarching, long-term and strategic issues of global and regional importance, and agreed to strengthen the closer partnership for development between the two countries.

The year 2020 will be seared into our memory as the world is hard hit by Covid-19 pandemic and China-India relations face difficulties and challenges. However, China's policy towards India has not changed and we believe friendship and cooperation should be the mainstream in bilateral relations, and that's why we choose to compile the Commemorative Volume during the difficult time. It's inspiring that our work gets great support from friends of both countries and we receive 57 articles and congratulatory letters since June. We go through each and every article. Some eloquently record the unforgettable experiences of visiting China, entrepreneurs catch the opportunity to actively participate in China-India trade cooperation, friends in education vigorously promote people-to-people exchanges, leaders from Chinese community keep working to enhance India-China friendship, and people of older generations reminisce about various events in China and express ardent desire for a productive and warm China-India relationship. Each article is an important testimony to the friendship between China and India, and opens a window for thoroughly understanding the history of China-India relations in 70 years.

Today China-India relations stand at a new crossroad, and we sincerely hope friends of our two countries who support and care about China-India friendship to play a bigger and more positive role in cementing public opinion and accumulating consensus on the bilateral relations. Chinese Consulate General in Kolkata will continue to facilitate sub-regional cooperation between China and India.

Friends, let's take the opportunity of celebrating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and India to renew the friendship and achieve greater glory in the next 70 years!
